

"Wanda Delashaw Holland Foote was born in Moulton, Alabama, July 3, 1921, and passed peacefully on October 12, 2016, at St James Place, in Baton Rouge, under the loving watch of her caregivers and Hospice of Greater Baton Rouge. She was married in Baltimore, in 1942, while the love of her life, John E. Foote of Blanchester, Ohio, was on a brief military leave before shipping out to the Middle East. She was a mother and homemaker who later spent several years working as a purchasing agent for the Louisiana Department of Revenue. She was a long time member of the Baton Rouge Art League and served as its president in 1965-66. She was an amateur radio enthusiast (W5DIN) and a sportswoman who loved fishing and baseball, a game she learned from her father, who had played shortstop for the Birmingham Barons in the 1920s. She was a long time active member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, John, and is survived by son, John H. Foote of Manassas, Virginia; daughters, Barbara Foote Evans of Baton Rouge and Lora Foote Burgess of Washington, DC; her grandchildren, Holly Evans Annison of Denham Springs, Loy William Evans of Prairieville, Nate Foote of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Sam Foote of San Diego; and her great-grandchildren, Saige Annison, and Ethan and Abby Evans. Many heartfelt thanks to the staff at St. James Place for Wanda's wonderful care over the past many years as they assisted her in the phases of her residency. Special thanks to the memory caregivers at Highland Court and to Hospice for her final journey. A private memorial service will be held. Inurnment will be with her husband of an all-to-brief 25 years, at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be appropriate to Hospice of Greater Baton Rouge or the Alzheimer's Foundation of Louisiana.
