Mr. Smith retired as an engineer from Exxon Co. USA with more than 40 years of service. He was 90, a native of Bogalusa and a resident of Baton Rouge. He died Saturday, April 9, 2011, at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice. He attended LSU, served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Masons. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Tuesday, April 12, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes on Wednesday April 13, from 10 a.m. until religious services at noon in the funeral home chapel conducted by the Rev. Brad Franklin of First United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wallene Givens Smith; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra Smith Stein and Robert Stein, of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Sharon Smith Polito and Ronnie Polito, of Baton Rouge; four grandchildren, Jonathan Stein, Jennifer Stein Czymeryk and husband Ed, Brandi Polito, and Dustin Polito and wife Katie; and five great-grandchildren.
