
Warren Virgets, Sr passed away at home with his wife by his side on Wednesday afternoon, August 21st. He was born in Baton Rouge on January 15, 1931 to Nick and Atholyn Virgets. He graduated from Catholic High School in 1948, lettering in baseball, basketball, and football and played in the LA High School All Star game. Warren attended LSU on a football scholarship, where as number 86, he was Honorable Mention All American, and held 2 pass receiving records - Most Yards Receiving and Most Touchdown Receptions - for 17 years. He also played in the Blue Gray College All Star Game. He received his BS in education. He served as 2nd Lt in the US Air Force where he headed the Eyes on the Sky campaign. He married Sonya Leblanc from Paincourtville, a former Miss Louisiana, in 1955. As a member of St. George parish, he was instrumental in the early growth of the school and church and served twice as the chairman of the St. George fair. He was the Catholic High School Men's Club president in 1978 and member of the CHS Founder's Society. He worked for S&S Wholesale/Lipsey's for 38 years. After retirement, he went on to become known as the "Landman" for his success in sales of large tracts of recreational and hunting property. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and member of Tansy Island Hunting Club and founder of Pecan Grove hunting club and a past president of LABA. Warren was also the founder and co-owner of Audubon Lakes, featuring Bikini Beach, now known as Hemingbough. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sonya Leblanc Virgets; his children Warren, Jr and wife Anne and children, Warren, III and fiancé Natalie, Nicholas and wife Stephanie, and Thomas; Eric and children Alexa, Krizia, Makenzie, Greylin, Jett and Cruz; Flint and wife Chris, and children Alex and Quentin; Kristy and husband Shea and children Shea, Jr and Raine and partner Tyler. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Virgets, and in-laws Georges Leblanc, Jr, Jim and Betty Leblanc, Terry and Barbara Leblanc and Lorraine Leblanc and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his in laws Georges and Jewelle Leblanc, Sr, and his sisters in law Ankie Virgets and Maxine Leblanc. Honorary pallbearers are Richard Lipsey and Porter Horgan. Special thanks to his favorite lunch buddies Ed Price and Mike Ferrell. Warren had a zest for life and laughter and he will be greatly missed.
