Waunita D. Kleinpeter, a vibrant spirit and beloved matriarch, departed this life peacefully at her home in the care of Hospice at the age of 66. She was born on November 24, 1958, in Innis, Louisiana, to Martha White and Gus Dixon, both of whom instilled in her the values of hard work and resilience.
A proud graduate of Capital High School, Waunita pursued her passion for learning and personal growth by obtaining an associate's degree in cosmetology from Moler’s Beauty College, along with certifications in phlebotomy and welding from Phlebotomy Training School and Avondale Shipyard, where she excelled as a top student. Throughout her school years, she showcased her athleticism, captivating all as she played tennis and ran track, all while maintaining stellar academic performance.
Waunita's faith was an integral part of her life. She found fellowship and community at Beach Grove Baptist Church under Pastor Gregory White and later at Liberty Church with Pastor Robert Maxie, both in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
As a mother, Waunita devoted herself to raising her three children—Tiffany Veal, Trenell Dixon, and Takeshia Dixon—with an unwavering love that was both nurturing and empowering. Her commitment extended to her grandchildren, teaching them life lessons with grace and affection. Throughout her career, Waunita held various roles that reflected her industrious nature, from bartending and working in daycare to becoming a skilled phlebotomist and later a dedicated NEMT driver for Redstick Transportation. Her selflessness, wisdom, and work ethic served as an inspiration to all who knew her.
A true lover of life, Waunita radiated joy. She was the life of every gathering, a dancer at heart who celebrated every occasion with exuberance. Whether traveling the world, diving into a good book, or passionately following any sport, she embraced life with open arms. Her deep affection for her beloved dogs, Prince and Angel, echoed her nurturing spirit, treating them as cherished members of the family.
Waunita was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Kleinpeter III; her father, Gus Dixon; her grandchildren, Jakallian Monerell Williams and Jamone Terell Williams; her grandparents, Joseph and Mary Edwards, and Henry Dixon; as well as her siblings Angela White, Marlyin Dixon, Connie Dixon and Alton Edwards, along with her brother-in-laws; Robert Maxie Sr. and Corey Williams Sr.
She leaves behind an enduring legacy in her mother, Martha White; her children, Takeshia Dixon, Tiffany (Kyle) Veal, and Trenell (Melissa) Dixon; and grandchildren Javonne Williams, Marquis Hardnett, Kyle Veal Jr., Akilah Turner, Caleb Dixon, Caitlyn Turner, Trenell Dixon II., Caiya Dixon, and Cameron Dixon; her siblings Beverly Washington, Janice Dixon, Olivia Edwards, Gussie (Alberta) Edwards, Randy (Laura) Dixon, Patrick White, and Calvin (Ester) White; followed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and treasured friends who will forever cherish her memory.
As we celebrate Waunita’s journey, we are reminded of the words from 2 Timothy 4:7-8: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing."
Waunita D. Kleinpeter, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, will forever remain in our hearts. Her spirit lives on through the love she shared and the lives she touched.
