Wayne O. Vick passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2026, on his 40th wedding anniversary, at the age of 85, with his loving wife and son at his side. He was born in Meridian, MS, and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA.
Wayne was a 1959 graduate of Amite High School where he excelled in basketball and football. He signed with the St. Louis Cardinals, played a few games, then a car wreck ended his career. Wayne was an ardent fan of LSU sports, especially basketball. He was a basketball ticket holder for many years attending home and many away games. He loved fishing with friends, and Darby and Melanie.
Wayne was a car salesman/fleet manager for many years working at Miller Terrel Buick, A.K. Durnin Chrysler and Community Motors in Hammond, LA. Wayne never met a stranger, always smiling and caring for all his clients.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Mabile Vick; son, Darby Vick (Melanie); grandson, Cody (P.J. Walsh); stepchildren, Karla and Cory Blake; step grandson, Cade Callaway (Claire); step great-granddaughter, Briar Grace; brothers-in-law, Ron Mabile of New York, Emile Mabile (Frances) of White Castle, and Mark Mabile (Linda); and a host of other loving family members and friends.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Earl Vick and Mabel Ingram; brother, Roy V. Vick; sister, Vicky Bartlett; brother-in-law, Tom Bartlett; and sister-in-law, Lena Vick.
Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 10:30am until the funeral at 2pm. Burial will immediately follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Baker, LA. The family requests that LSU attire be worn.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Wayne’s special friends, Darrell and Ann Hicks, for their calls every single day for months, that lifted his spirits. They would also like to thank Coach Dale Brown who often checked on him and of course, talked basketball. The family extends much gratitude to Hospice of Baton Rouge for their caring and compassionate staff.
