A retired employee of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014. He loved his work as a Captain of the Juvenile and Detective Division with 25 years of service. He was born in Wilmer, Alabama on November 6, 1932. He served in the Army as a Paratrooper in the Korean War and he belonged to the Masons of Louisiana for 50 years. At 81 years old he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Joyce Scholl Ryals, together they enjoyed fishing and traveling in their motorhome. He is also preceded by his daughter, Donna Forest; and sister, Leatrice Porter. He is survived by daughter, Gloria Louque and husband, Troy; son, David Ryals and wife, Renee; eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Nathan, Derrick, and Michael Abshire, Kelly Ryals, Susan Boudreaux, Brian Ryals, and Eric Forest; 16 great grandchildren; and brother in law, James Porter of Picayune, Mississippi. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home 9595 Florida Blvd. on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, from 5 PM until 9 PM and will resume on Thursday, April 24, 2014, from 11 AM until service at 2 PM. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pall bearers will be his grandsons.
