
A retired Greenbriar Elementary School secretary with more than 20 years of service, she died at 5:20 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2008, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet. She was 88, a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Franklinton. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Thursday, April 3, from 8 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Dale Phillips. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Melanie Watkins, of Ponchatoula, Reginald and Annette Watkins, of Greenwell Springs, and Danny and Sue Ellen Watkins, of Pelham, Ala.; six grandchildren, Wesley and Lucas Watkins, Joshua and Seth Watkins and Wade and Molly Watkins; great-granddaughter, Savannah Watkins; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James Parvin "J.P." Watkins; parents, Edgar D. and Rosa Poole Wascom; five sisters, Hester Miller, Bevie Miller, Zoe Brown, Athalee Dixon and Stella Smith; and three brothers, A.C. Wascom, Armett Wascom and Alton "Shorty" Wascom. She was a member of Comite Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Comite Baptist Church.
