William "Bill" Freeman Caballero, Jr.

"William "Bill" Freeman Caballero, Jr., age 73, entered eternal rest surrounded by his family on the 22nd of April 2018 after a long, hard fought battle with cancer. He was born in White Castle, LA and resided in Baton Rouge, LA.  Bill was a devoted husband to Agatha Martinez Caballero for 39 years and a beloved father to his three daughters, Jennifer, Christy and Julie. He is lovingly called "Paw Paw" by his four grandsons, Jake, John William, Andrew and William. He is survived by his mother Rita Una Caballero and his four siblings, Janelle Simoneaux, Kathy Simoneaux, Dennis Caballero, and Pat Caballero.  Husband, Father and Paw Paw were just a few of the many titles he held throughout his life.  He's best known as "˜Coach Bill' by dozens of his daughters' friends on their basketball and softball teams that he coached when they were younger. Bill was known as "˜Master Chef' for his "world-famous" jambalaya that he cooked every year for the St. Patrick's Day parade and for St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Also called "˜Teacher', to the many students he taught for over 36 years at the Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired. He was known to his daughters as "The Jitterbug King" as he loved to jitterbug with his girls (who often fought over who was going to dance with him first) whenever the music was playing. "˜The Keeper of Bees' to thousands of honey bees in his backyard that he loved to house and admire as he and his wife would garden in the backyard. Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Aloysius Church for over thirty years.  Bill will always be remembered for his generosity, compassion, love and wisdom to all that knew him. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018 from 9:30am-12:30am at St. Aloysius Church 2025 Stuart Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA 70808 with funeral services immediately following. His body will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park 4045 North St, Baton Rouge, LA 70806.  In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in Bill's honor be given to Hospitality Apartments 7300 Bertner Avenue, Houston, TX 77030.
