
William "Bill" Erwin Larguier, Jr., 81, of Baton Rouge, devoted husband, father, and friend to many, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015, at Our Lady of The Lake Hospital following a brief illness. Bill was born on January 8, 1934, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He attended Dufrocq Elementary, Baton Rouge Junior High, Sewanee Military Academy, University High School, and Louisiana State University While at University High he excelled in athletics, particularly football, and was chosen as the most outstanding player. Bill was married on June 4, 1954, to his high school sweetheart Florence Adele Heard; they were married for 60 years and enjoyed a beautiful life together. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1954 and served for four years. In 1958, he began his thirty-nine year career with the Louisiana State Department of Civil Service, where he served as the Chief of the Classification and Pay Division. For his work with the state, he was awarded the prestigious Dunbar Service Award. He was a long standing member of the University United Methodist Church. His serving of the community through volunteer work spanned his entire life. In particular, he enjoyed his many years of work with the Bayou State Lions Club and his position serving as long time board chairman of the Louisiana Capital Federal Credit Union. He had many varied interests and hobbies. Although an avid golfer, and enthusiastic collector of all types of memorabilia, his biggest interest was LSU athletics. Rarely ever missing a game, and always adorned in purple and gold, there was no greater LSU tiger fan. He was quick witted, a life long jokester, an avid reader, and great friend. Most importantly though, he cherished his wife, daughters and grandchildren and spent his entire life in the service of his family. He is survived by his loving wife Florence Heard Larguier; his two daughters Elizabeth Ann Larguier of Baton Rouge, and Rebecca Larguier Armstrong and husband Paul C. Armstrong MD of Abingdon, Virginia; and six grandchildren Michael Preston Caballero, Erin Ashley Caballero, Justin David Caballero, William Hayes Armstrong, Claire Adele Armstrong, and Parker Earhart Armstrong who were the joy of his life. Other survivors include sister in law Elizabeth Heard Wilton, brother in law Robert M. Heard, and nephew Jeffrey Scott Larguier. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, William Erwin Larguier, Sr and Annie Lee King Larguier Folkes Heard; brother Edward King Larguier, two stepfathers Cheston D. Folkes and Thomas P. Heard, and a brother in law, Thomas P. Heard Jr. Memorial donations can be made in his honor to University United Methodist Church, 3350 Dalrymple Drive, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70802 or to your desired charity. The family wishes to thank the physicians, nurses, and staff at Our Lady of the Lake SICU for the compassionate care received. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at University United Methodist Church, 3350 Dalrymple Dr, Baton Rouge, La. Family members will be serving as pall bearers. Prior to the service, the family will hold a visitation at the church between 9:30-11:00 a.m. Due to the recent inclement weather, the family will hold a private burial service at Roselawn Cemetery at a later date.
