Winston Lea D’Armond, “Chaz Bubba”, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, March 28 at Williamsburg Senior Living Community in Baton Rouge at age 82. He was born on August 30, 1940, in Baton Rouge to Maple & Ruth Spears D’Armond. Winston is survived by his brother Gerald D’Armond (Joy) and his devoted nieces Donna Labbé (Duane) and Michelle Tiede (David) who took care of him and made sure his final years were lived his way. He was beloved by their children, Austin (Gabrielle) & Matthew Labbé and Shelby Joy & Griffin Tiede who affectionately called him “Paw Paw Winnie”. Also survived by nephews Doug & Daren D’Armond and niece Pam D’Armond & her sons Chris & Adam Templet. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Ken D’Armond. Winnie proudly graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1958 and from LSU where he was a KA. He served in the army and was a long-time employee of Borden Chemical (Uniroyal/Monochem) and a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church. “To know him was to love him” was absolutely true. Winnie touched so many lives and had so many special friends throughout the world especially in Canada, Australia, Boston, California, Texas, Nashville and the Florida Gulf Coast. Destin was his “happy place”. He didn’t stay idle for long and when he wasn’t traveling, he was listening to live music at places like The Varsity or New Orleans Jazz Fest where he attended every day of every year until his cardiac arrest there in 2019. After that, he slowed down a bit but embraced his second chance and never said no to an invitation or opportunity. He loved Mardi Gras where you couldn’t miss him with his bedazzled blazer (made himself) and his bota bag, giving squirts of “recipe” to anyone up to the challenge. He fiercely loved his family, his Lord, his country, any and all things LSU, fireworks, the 4th of July, New Year’s and especially Christmas. He loved his house and his yard where he lived for 50 years and was known as “the mayor of Greenbriar”. Due to his substantial and never-ending collections, his house became known as “The Winstonian”. A funeral service led by Pastor Larkin Harris will be at 2pm on Saturday, April 1, at Greenoaks Funeral Home with visitation beginning at noon. Burial will be in Greenoaks Memorial Park followed by a celebration in their Reception Center. We ask that you wear festive attire that is complimentary to the spirit of Winston who was truly always “the life of the party.” Pallbearers will be Duane, Austin & Matthew Labbé, Griffin Tiede, John Richardson, Russell Richards, Tom Cooney & Tad Duhé. Honorary pallbearers are Dave Tiede, Joey Rome, Bill D’Armond, Bill Mitchell, Henson Moore & Buddy Guidroz. Memorial Donations can be made to St. Jude or Special Olympics. The family would like to thank his special neighbors who have become family, John, Melanie & Russell who watched out for Winston, allowing him to live at home as long as possible. Special thanks to Dr. Deumite who compassionately cared for Win for many years and guided us in caring for him. We also wish to thank Dr. Rolfsen, Williamsburg, Pinnacle Hospice, On Site Sitters/Dawn Drago, and his sitters Trasee, Mona & Michael. Winston never missed an opportunity to make a new friend and in his final days, that friend was his special caregiver, Michael Ford. He & Michael were buddies and spent many hours telling stories, laughing, walking outside and listening to music. We are forever grateful. Here's to you Chaz Bubba! We will keep on keepin’ on until we meet again. “The road goes on forever and the party never ends…”
