Alan Wayne Welch

Alan grew up in Baytown, Texas, graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in 1958. He went on to attend Sam Houston State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, and the University of Houston, where he received his Masters of Education degree. Alan worked for Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District for 34 years as a teacher and counselor before retiring. After retirement, Alan moved to New Braunfels, where he became a member of the Comal Master Gardeners. He loved living next door to his brother and spending time with him. He was known as “Bubba” to his brother, Michael, and you could often hear the two of them laughing and cutting up, just as brothers do. Alan enjoyed cars, shopping, and spending time with his family, especially his favorite cousin and best friend, Sue. One of his favorite titles was “Unkie.” He loved spending time with his nieces and watching them grow up. His most treasured and loyal companion was his sweet labradoodle, Holly. They were true pals, and she never left his side. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

Alan was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Estelle and Loy Ferrel; his father, Ernest Welch; and his beloved brother, Michael Welch.

He is survived by his niece and her husband, Julie and Marcus Cooper of College Station, and their daughter, Addison Cooper; his first cousin, Sue Ball of College Station; his niece, Sara Swint of McKinney, and her daughters, Hailey and Emery; his sister-in-law, Donna Welch of College Station; his second cousin, Rory Gresham; as well as numerous other family members and friends. His favorite dog and sweet companion, Holly, will meet him in Heaven one day.

Services will be held Saturday, August 22, 2026. Visitation will be at Earthman Funeral Home in Baytown from 8:30-9:30 am. A graveside service will be held at Earthman Memory Gardens at 10:00 am.

The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to Hospice Brazos Valley and Comfort Keepers in College Station, Texas, for the kindness, guidance, and compassionate care they provided to Alan during his final days.
