AJ was active in the Baptist church beginning at Coady Baptist and ending at Baptist Temple when his health prevented his continuous service.
AJ was preceded in death by his parents, AG and Mary Hammer; wife, Virgie; daughters, Judy Curtis and Sandra McKinney; and brother, Wilburn Snyder.
AJ is survived by his son, John Hammer; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and many other family members.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 10:00am with a visitation beginning at 9:00am at Earthman Funeral Home. Burial will follow at San Jacinto Memorial Park, Houston, TX.
