Arther Bernard ""A.B."" Miller, born on April 24, 1918, passed away on November 6, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Cherokee County, Texas, to Benjamin Hamilton Miller and Lena Dora Woodall Miller.
As a very young man he moved his wife and family to Baytown so he could take a job working for a dairy. After nine months he then took a job working for Humble Oil and Refining Company in 1945, which would later become Exxon. He retired on April 1, 1973. A man of solid work ethics and a drive to remain productive, he returned to school and became a real estate broker and opened his own real estate company, A & A Realty, with his wife and two of their daughters. When he retired from his successful real estate business several years later, he continued working hard, owning multiple rent houses and doing all of the maintenance work himself. During his many working years and beyond, he devoted a great deal of time to his bountiful vegetable gardens and his woodworking hobby. His truest pride and passion, however, was his family.
His wife Anita was his one true love, and he was heard many times over the years saying he thanked the Lord every day for bringing them together. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. He often spoke of being a rich man to have been blessed with such a loving family. His children and grandchildren have inherited a priceless legacy by having the privilege of passing down his wonderful stories from the ""old days.""
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Bernice Mae Hardison, Leola Bertha Winkels, Irene Bernell Jones, and Bonnie Mondell Comer; his son, Larry B. Miller; and his loving wife, Anita Miller.
He is survived by his daughters, Glenda Miller, Shirley Gilbert and her husband, Ronnie, Edie Jones and her husband, Weldon, all of Baytown, Marlowe Kayce of Denver, Colorado, and his daughter-in-law Beverly Miller of Dayton. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Billy Mercer of Houston, Connie Mercer of Ireland, Melissa Diederiks and husband Everett of Virginia, Diana Martin of North Carolina, Kevin Miller of North Dakota, Lena McLain of Fort Worth, Ron Gilbert and wife Janice, Donna Brown and husband Tim, and Steve Jones, all of Baytown. Great-grandchildren Kelsey Mercer, Conor Duggan, Caoimhe Duggan, Jeffrey Diederiks, Keri Diederiks, Danny Martin, Will Martin, Ethan McLain, Brady McLain, Katherine Miller, Karlynn Miller, Amanda Burlin and husband Jason, Kaylon Gilbert, Colin Gilbert, Madison Jones, Lauren Jones, and Brooke Jones, and great-great-grandchildren, Layna Burlin and Kaydence Burlin.
He is also survived by his two loving sisters, Janice Day and Yvonne Sartor, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. He will be long remembered for his love of family, his integrity, and the ethics he applied to his life, his business, and his interactions with everyone he met. His generosity and solid examples impacted many of those closest to him. His presence and loving nature will be greatly missed. His grandchildren treasure the legacy they will share with their families throughout the years of memories of their Grandpa. He will be an inspiration to many for generations to come. We celebrate with him today as he is now absent from the body and face to face with our Lord and Savior.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, November 9, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev.
