

Avis Cook, a beloved resident of Baytown, Texas, passed away at the age of 95 on July 23, 2023, to join her Lord and Savior. She was born on July 8, 1928, one of six children born to Lee Undis and Mamie Maze.
Avis married Victor Cook in 1948, and together they raised two daughters in Baytown. Throughout her life, Avis exhibited an incredible work ethic, dedicating herself to her job as a Secretary at Exxon Marine Department and taking on additional work, such as sewing, ironing, washing clothes, and painting houses. Avis lived in the YMCA while attending Elliott Business College. She was an advocate of education and equal pay for women.
Devoted to her faith, Avis regularly attended services at the Assembly of God, finding solace and strength in her religious beliefs.
Avis was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Cook; siblings, Thurman Maze, Herman Maze, Hubert Maze, and Lois Chamblin; and son-in-law, Bill Shelton. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Vicki and Dan Pinson of Baytown and Candice Shelton of La Grange; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and J.E. Murphy; and sister-in-law, Eva Maze.
A cherished grandmother, Avis leaves behind her grandchildren: Amber Plante of Baytown, Matthew Brown and wife Jessica of Crosby, and Jordan Nagel and husband, Brian of Katy. Additionally, she is survived by six great-grandchildren: Karson Williams, Caden Nagel, Evan Garnica, Bryson Temple, Seth Garnica, and Cason Nagel.
The family of Avis Cook expresses heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers who dedicated their time, compassion, and expertise to provide exceptional care for Avis, with a special thank you to Keena Randolph and Kylie Knox.
Funeral service will be held at 10 am, Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook Drive, Baytown, TX 77521.
