

Barbara Jean Bishop, 81, of Baytown passed away Monday, July 14, 2008 surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born November 25, 1926 in Jamestown, Texas to Fred and Sybil Howard Hamman. She was a retired hair dresser and former member of the Wooster Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was actively involved with several church programs; The Tuesday Life Enrichment Class, The Bright Beginnings Pre-School Program, Ladies Bible Class, and the annual Back to School Clothing Give-away. She began and continued to write ""B's Buzz"", a weekly news column in the church bulletin until her recent illness.
Barbara loved her physical family, church family and many friends. She found great joy in serving others. We feel that our mother can best be described in Proverbs 31:10-31.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband Louie Bishop. She is survived by a daughter, and son-in law, Lynda and Harold Allen of Baytown; son and daughter-in-law Gerald and Linda Bishop of Georgetown, Texas, daughter and son-in-law Shirley and Bo Cox of Baytown; Sister Betty Chess of Houston, 2 brothers Fred Hamman of Jasper, and Robert Hamman of San Antonio. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kim Garcia and her husband Ray, Tammi Prothro and husband Terry, Dee Anne Key, Josh and Clint Bishop, Doug Cox and wife Jamie, Blake Cox and wife Kimberly, great grandchildren, Courtney, Tyler, and Bethany Prothro, Austin Key, and Megan Garcia; special cousin, Jenois Wiggins; and very dear friend, Alma McCaghren and a host of other friends.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Challa, Dr. Burns, Dr. Shah and all the staff at San Jancinto Methodist Hospital for the compassionate care given to our mother during her illness and to her family after her passing.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Doug and Blake Cox, Joshua and Clint Bishop, Terry Prothro, and Ray Garcia.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Navarre Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a. m. Thursday July 17, 2008 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
