Oh what a lady! She hired me at Southern in 1985 and our friendship evolved over the next 30 something years. She taught me to give only the best that I had to give to my work. She was there for me during the good times and the bad. Through births, deaths and everything in between. She was always there for me! I love you sweet lady and will miss you so much!

I worked at the Baytown Sun in the accounting dept with Barbara in the mid 70's. During those 3-1/2 years she was a fantastic person to work with. I lost touch after I moved on, but never forgot her. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

My sincere condolences to the family. I wasn't sure if I would leave a message because I still refuse to believe she is gone, but I must face this reality. I had the honor to work with this wonderful woman at SNI's corporate office. I first encounter that boisterous laugh and asked who in the world is that? So from day one of meeting her, she made me laugh. She was professional, witty, intelligent and loyal to the dream of Mr. and Mrs. Walls. On top of being professional, she truly cared for her colleagues. When I lost my sister, she consoled me and was ready to listen when I was still mourning. When I finally got married, she laughed said to my husband, "I have to shake your hand because this is a tough cookie right here! You must be a great man!" I will never forget Barbara, or that infectious laugh! I can't say goodbye, so until we meet again...you just keep laughing!

I had the privilege & pleasure if working with Barbara at "the Sun". She was always smiling & laughing & always willing to help or talk if needed. I am sorry for the loss & pain this family is going thru. Nothing can take the hurt away but always remember God only takes the best.

Donna & Cathy...words cannot convey my feelings for your loss but I am experiencing wonderful memories of you two along with your mother, and your daddy. Living on 4th Street & watching you girls & mine become friends, play, and grow together while creating a lifetime of memories brings so much happiness to me as I’m sure it did to your mother. Barbara was special to me...she encouraged me to join the Rho Zeta organization which allowed me to experience friendships with many others in our community. She was so easy to be with, her laughter was intoxicating...she was a friend and a confidant when I needed her. I will miss knowing that she is no longer within reach on this earth but I look forward to being with her again one day.

I worked at the Baytown Sun from 2004 to 2013 and during that time became friends with Barbara. She was a wonderful mentor and always available to answer questions and give valuable advice based on her many years in the newspaper industry and accounting profession. A wonderful person and I feel privileged to have worked with her.

Barbara hired me at Southern newspapers in 2001. She was a great boss and a greater friend. She loved her job but better she loved her family. She often talked about her grand kids and family. She will be truly missed. May God bless the family and give them peace. She was such a special lady and will be truly missed.
