Benedict Arthur, also known as Mr. Joe, was born March 23, 1944, to the late Ms. Lucy Monerville in Grand Riviere, Dennery, Saint Lucia. He passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and close friends.
Mr. Benedict was raised by a large family surrounded by his grandparents, aunts and uncles. He went on to learn welding in St. Croix, where he lived for many years. While in St. Croix Benedict married his wife, Ms. Marguerite Grant of St. Lucia. They later moved to Baytown, Texas in the United States.
Mr. Joe established himself in Baytown in the early 80s, where he got his nicknames “Brother” and “B. Cool”. While in Baytown he continued his welding career and made many new friends, some of whom became just like family. Benedict was a joyful person to be around. He had a beautiful personality, and he was an extremely hardworker.
Benedict and Marguerite were blessed with two sons, Dale and Dan. Shortly afterwards he sent for his oldest son, Lord Arthur, to come to Baytown as well. Benedict will be remembered for his jokes and teasing, playing dominos for hours, his love of food and boxing, and his love of the Lucian community. He was highly admired for the way he took care of his family and close friends. Benedict is survived by his wife Mrs. Marguerite Arthur, his three sons, Lord (Ricky) Arthur (along with his wife Shawane), Dale Arthur and Dan Arthur, his daughter Helen Joseph, four sisters, five brothers and a host of nieces and nephews, including Selma Felicien and Rhonda “Della” Deterville, cousins and many loving friends.
Visitation will be held at Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook Drive, Baytown, TX 77521, US, on November 7, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the Funeral at Navarre Funeral Home from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. A Graveside service will take place at Earthman Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8624 Garth Road, Baytown, TX 77521, on November 7, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm, and a Reception will be held at The Ranch, 8210 Thompson Rd, Highlands, TX 77562, on November 7, 2026.
