Betty Ruth Herring, age 95, of Baytown, Texas, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2025. She was born on January 12, 1930, in Abbott, Texas, to the late Ernest William and Maude Della Young. Betty was a proud graduate of Abilene High School, in Abilene, Texas, class of 1948. In 1950, at the age of 20 years old, Betty married the love of her life, a young man by the name of Tommie Herring. Together they spent the next 75 years, raising their family and traveling the United States, with the Pacific Northwest being their favorite.
Betty had many interests which included cooking, traveling and camping. Aside from Tommie, her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy. She was fondly known as the family babysitter, and she gladly accepted the job. Caring for others came naturally, being from a family of 10 children. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Doris Skidmore, Joyce Lee, Virgie Bell, Elaine Murph, Patsy Miller, and E.W. Young. Those left behind who will cherish her memory are her beloved husband Tommie; her children Jan Herring-Seeley and husband Terry, Lisa Yeary and husband Callie, Kevin Herring and wife Salena, and Rob Herring and wife Porter; her 13 grandchildren; her 11 great-grandchildren; her sisters Jeanette Page, Frances Smith, and Anita McDonald; her numerous nieces and nephews; along with a host of other loving relatives and friends.
The family would like to offer its appreciation to the caretakers and staff at The Lodge at Pine Creek, for the compassionate care shown to Betty during her stay. A very special thanks goes out to Ascend Hospice for the above and beyond care.
Honoring the family by serving as pallbearers will be Rob Herring, Kevin Herring, Terry Seeley, Steele Seeley, Callie Yeary, and Ben Maynard.
A visitation will be held at Earthman Baytown Funeral Home, located at 3919 Garth Road, Baytown, TX 77521, on July 15, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. The funeral service will follow at the same location from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm on the same day.
