Betty Joe Keefer

Betty Joe Keefer, 81, of Baytown was born November 29, 1927 in Baytown and passed away Saturday, July 25, 2009 in a local hospital. She was a retired Goose Creek School District schoolteacher, where she taught at Travis Elementary and Baytown Junior and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years and served as its organist for 18 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J. A. and Allene Cope and husband, Elbert Olan Keefer. She is survived by her daughter, Kim Ann Keefer of Baytown; son and daughter-in-law, Kyle Andrew and Susan Keefer of Spartanburg, SC; sister, Lucylle Fulmer of Nacogdoches; sisters-in-law, LaNelle Phillips of Madisonville and Vela Adair of San Antonio; grandchildren, Jacob Michael Thorne, Chelsi Loupe, Chloe Keefer, Drew Keefer and Owen Keefer; and great granddaughter, Hope Thorne.

Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Tuesday from 5:00 p. m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 505 Rollingbrook Dr., Baytown, TX 77521 with Rev. Bill Yowell and Rev. Roy Parker officiating. Burial will follow at San Jacinto Memorial Park.

In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church.
