In addition to being a devoted husband, father and grandfather, Bill was always passionate about writing, reading and especially any kind of fishing. Some of his favorite authors included Ernest Hemingway and Max Ehrmann. He loved fishing Trinity Bay but was also just as happy trying to hook a Blue Gill in a local pond. He also loved traveling, especially to Mexico. He graduated from the University of Houston majoring in English and minoring in Spanish and was a lifetime member of Baytown’s First Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. and Pearl Wood of Baytown; grandparents, E.C. “Smokey” and Rosie Wood of Baytown; Aunt and Uncle, Jane and Eddie Cleveland of Baytown; and Uncle Eldon Wood of Richland Springs, TX.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Rebecca Rangel Wood; Brother Norman C. Wood; Step-Daughter and son-in-law, Karla and Eric Jakstadt of Marietta, GA; Step-son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Jeanette Flores of Baytown; Step-son and daughter-in-law, John and Sandi Flores of Cypress, TX.; cousins, Gaye Hull of Georgetown, TX and Micky Wood of Magnolia, TX; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A visitation was held on Thursday, June 9, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00pm at Earthman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 10:00am at Earthman Funeral Home. Interment will follow at San Jacinto Memorial Park in Houston, TX.
