Our Matriarch

Bobbie Louise Josserand Fortinberry was born in Goose Creek, Texas on January 22, 1933 and passed away in her home on June 22, 2019 at the age of 86. Her parents were Forrest Clarence Josserand and Letha Lawrence Josserand. Forrest, Bobbie’s father, grew up in the Goose Creek area as well and had been engaged in the oil field business most of his married life. Bobbie had a younger sister, Mary Sue. Bobbie grew up in the Mont Belvieu area where she attended Barbers Hill grammer school and high school. Bobbie then attended Lee College for two years.

On December 14, 1951, Bobbie married the “love of her life” Billy Sands Fortinberry. Even in the last years of her life she spoke of how handsome he was. In the early years of their marriage, she gave birth to two girls: Sandra Julene and Linda Ann.

Bobbie loved her girls and even more her grandchildren Eric, Nash, Andrew, Rachel, Michael, and Jesse. She traveled as far as Indonesia to visit and if you knew Bobbie you know she loved to travel. She’s traveled land and sea all over the world including Alaska, France, Italy, Spain, and Mexico to mention a few. She loved to cruise the sea.

Bobbie was known to have social gatherings at her house including birthday parties and weddings. All her grandchildren and great grandchildren have wonderful memories of swimming at her house and playing with her dogs. She spoiled her grandchildren immensely. They knew she would always make them something to eat and everyone enjoyed her breakfast, especially her bacon. She must have done something special to it because it tasted so good. She always had time to share her love with each of them in a special way.

Bobbie L. Fortinberry worked devotedly at Citizens Bank & Trust Co. for thirty-eight years until her retirement in 1998. She was proud to be a part of the team and remained friends with her colleagues indefinitely.

Although she enjoyed her retirement greatly, she embarked on a new venture at City Lites with Eric and Nash. Oh how she loved that bar and her boys. She won 1st place a couple of years for the best chicken and dumplings. She shared many years of fun and laughter with friends and family while enjoying a nice cold beverage. I guess she was kind of a wild gal at heart and she loved to gamble too. Trips to Las Vegas and Louisiana were a common event. Those slot machines got her every time. These are the good times to always remember.

Many praise, thanks, and appreciation to all those who cared for Bobbie in the golden years of her life. She deserved every ounce of love given. She always took care of her family and rightfully so, we would take care of her. There is a special place in our hearts for you Kelly. No one could have taken better care of our precious jewel with such love. Thank you for everything.

We will always cherish the memories we shared with the Matriarch of our family-Bobbie Louise Fortinberry. We love you always.

Loved working with Bobbie at Citizens National Bank and Trust Co., downtown Baytown, Texas in the '60s. She was such a joy to everybody and so friendly. I know she will be sorely missed. RIP pretty lady.
