Bonnie Marie Pruitt was born on November 18, 1966, in Vinton, Louisiana, to her parents, Lawrence Pruitt and Fern Lee Peters. She passed away after cancer cut her life short in Baytown, Texas, on July 10, 2026, at age 59. She grew up in the small community of Edgerly, Louisiana. Bright and musical from a young age, Bonnie took piano lessons from Linda Hare in Vinton beginning when she was 8. She also made her profession of faith in Christ about that time. She loved playing hymns. Bonnie began playing the piano in church at age 13 and started teaching soon after. She taught countless students from Louisiana and Texas to play the piano over the last 45 years.
She tested out of her senior year at Vinton High School and enrolled in college. She was a 1989 graduate of McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where she studied under the late Patricia Bulber and earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy.
Bonnie married Pastor Mark E. Broussard in 1988 at First Baptist Church, Vinton, Louisiana, where they met. They had three children, and she was so proud of them! In 2000, she became a member of Cedar Bayou Baptist Church in Baytown, Texas, where she served as pianist and taught a ladies’ Sunday school class. She was an excellent cook and baker. Often, she expressed her love for you through her cooking. She loved giving formal and informal teas, preparing Thanksgiving meals, Christmas holidays, and family vacations. She made everything special. In addition to volunteering her time in her church over the years, she also volunteered with Baytown Little Theater. She spent a few semesters accompanying the Barbers Hill High School choirs. She volunteered to judge regional and state National History Day competitions.
She found purpose and fulfillment in life by serving the Lord, her family, and investing her time in the lives of her piano students and friends. As a teacher, she motivated her students strongly and pushed them to excellence. If God placed the music in your heart, Bonnie could teach you how to play it. She supported her children passionately through all their endeavors and enjoyed helping them be successful in National History Day competitions in school and in life. She loved them so much and they were the center of her life. As a pastor’s wife, Bonnie was her husband’s chief supporter and an indispensable help to him. She was the epitome of a help-mate and a lady.
Bonnie was intelligent, industrious, resourceful, disciplined, strong-willed, generous, kind, faithful, selfless, wise, loving, and beautiful. She had a keen mind and an excellent memory. She leaves with us a strong legacy of faith and family, and a void in our lives without her in this world. Thank God we will see her again in heaven!
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Fern Peters Pruitt; sisters, Barbara Barrentine and Bettye Wilfer; brother, Barry Pruitt.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Mark Broussard, of Baytown; her sons, Matthew Broussard, of Washington, DC, and Brandon Broussard, of Baytown; daughter, Madeleine Broussard, of Baytown; brother, Billy Pruitt (wife, Pam), of Sulphur, Louisiana; sisters, Beverly LeBleu (husband, Loree), of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Bridgett Johnson (husband, David), of Sulphur, Louisiana; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Cedar Bayou Baptist Church, 3116 North Alexander Drive, Baytown, Texas, on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Mark Broussard officiating.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Mary Hewitt (also one of Bonnie’s piano students) and all the caring nurses at Ascend Hospice Care of Baytown.
