Calvin Eugene “Gene or PawPaw” Watkins, Jr., 69, of Baytown, Texas, passed away, on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at his residence. He was born on October 7, 1955, in Baytown, to the late Betty Jo and Calvin Eugene Watkins, Sr. Gene proudly graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, in Baytown, class of 1973. He went on to make his career as a maintenance specialist in both the industrial and commercial fields.
Gene pursued many interests, some of which included watching tv, tinkering in his shed, and food of any type. He was a jokester and could easily make you laugh without trying. Gene naturally lit up the room with his personality. He was an avid history buff and could often be found watching the history channel or reading a book. Gene’s family would laugh because he was truly a collector of all things, whether it was cats, or marbles and everything in between. He was a hard worker doing whatever it took to make sure his family was well taken care of.
Gene had a servant’s heart; he found joy in volunteering in the community and at church. He was happy assisting others in need. In fact, if someone were to call and need help, he jumped into action without hesitation, never complaining no matter what the situation was.
Gene’ s family meant everything to him. He was so proud to be a father and grandfather. Alongside his grandchildren Gene was a bonus PawPaw to many other children. He had an open-door policy for his children and grandchildren. Their friends were always welcome at his house. Gene was his daughters’ biggest fan; he was always there for them, to push them to be the best they could be. He was tremendously proud of each of them and their accomplishments.
Gene was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sandy of thirty-nine years; his parents; and his brother Dwight Watkins. He leaves behind to cherish his loving memory his daughters Shasta Mullins and husband Jeremy, Heather Green, Gina Dixon and husband Josh, and Shannon Hall and husband Chip; his grandchildren Cameron Mullins, Lane Mullins, RayLynn Green, Brynlee Green, Alexis Dixon, Baylee Dixon, Hunter Dixon, Taylor Dixon, Annlee Dixon, Kelsee Dixon, Zoe Dixon; great-granddaughter Emi Mullins; his sisters Sherrie Dyess and husband Glenn, and Tina Ward and husband Danny; his brother John Watkins; his numerous nieces and nephews; along with a host of other loving relatives and friends.
A memorial service honoring Gene's life will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, in the sanctuary of Missouri Street Church of Christ, 3400 TX-146BUS, Baytown, Texas, 77520, beginning at 11am.
