Candice “Candy” Ann Strickland Penny, age 64, passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at home in Baytown in the arms of her beloved husband Paul Penny after succumbing to cancer. Candy was diagnosed on April 11, 2016 with glioblastoma, a very aggressive brain cancer and only given months to live if untreated. Not only did she pass up those initial dates but through her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and support of friends and family, she survived two years six months and two days. Her valiant fight with this aggressive cancer was declared “miraculous” by her oncologist but that was something we already knew.
Candy enjoyed spending time with friends and family, singing karaoke, fishing at Anahuac Park, beating the slot machines at the boats, a good strawberry margarita and a new pair of shoes. She was a very caring person who gave unselfishly to anyone in need.
Candy was born on April 13, 1954 in Baytown, Texas to the late Roy and Olga Strickland. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband of thirty one years Paul Penny, her brother Dr. Royce Strickland and Sheila Moss of Highlands, her children: Robyn and her husband Dean Rackley of Baytown, Misty and her husband Ryan McKinley of Baytown, Stayton Powers of Mont Belvieu, Austin Powers and his wife Jenna of Dallas, Denise and her husband Buck Woodall of Huffman, Richard Penny of Oceanside, California and Danielle Herrick of San Diego, California, and honorary daughter Kindra Lovelle of Austin. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Lauren Rackley and her companion Ryan Culp of Baytown, Rachel Rackley and Shelby Rackley of Baytown, Presley Powers of Dallas, Chris Penny of San Diego, Rachel Penny of Santa Barbara, California, Charlotte and Jacob Penny of San Diego, Leona Herrick of San Diego, Nishea and husband Rhett Flores of Crosby, James and his wife Shelby Johnson of Webster, Allison Antonini and Joseph Antonini of Baytown, Logan Woodall of Mont Belvieu, Dakota Woodall of Houston, Cade Woodall and his wife Amber of Shoreacres. And great-grandchildren Jack Culp of Baytown, Violet Flores of Crosby, Ava Penny of San Diego, Tripp Woodall of Shoreacres, Cameron Powers of Dallas (making her grand entrance in one month) and Lane Woodall of Shoreacres (due in to join us next February). Not to forget all of the others whose lives she touched along the way, she leaves behind many dear friends as well. Her house and heart was always open to anyone, whether they were in a time of need, just dropping by for a visit or some of the boy’s school friends making themselves at home, there was always room for more.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 4:00 pm at Cedar Bayou Grace United Methodist Church, 27714 Ferry Road, Baytown, Texas, with Rev. John Newsome officiating. Reception to follow.
