Carl M. Crowder, 76, of Cove was born September 29, 1931 in Jacksonville, IL and passed away Saturday, April 26, 2008 at his home. He grew up in Dixon, IL and moved to Cove in 1967, where he would tell folks, ""I don't want to live any farther north than Interstate 10, no farther south than Trinity Bay, no farther west than Cotton Bayou and no farther east than the Trinity River."" And this he did. He loved to hunt and collect guns. He went to work for Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation in 1952; he retired in 1988 as a station supervisor. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Tri City Beach Lions Club and a life-time member of the May Masonic Lodge #718 in Norris City, IL. He was a Democratic Precinct Chairman for many years and previously served on the board of directors of the West Chambers County Community Chest. He was very active in the City of Cove, where he served on the city council and was a two term mayor. As mayor, the three achievements he worked to accomplish were to buy a new ambulance, fire truck and EMS building. Along with other Cove volunteers, he worked to make Cove Frontier Days a success with BBQ's and auctions.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Elizabeth Baker and is survived by his wife of 56 years, Selma Crowder of Cove; daughters and sons-in-law, Sonya Crowder of Cove, Alicia and Dean Rogers of Houston and Carol and Billy Anderson of Spring; grandchildren, Allison Carter and husband Derick of Cove, Curtis Rogers and Laura Rogers, both of Houston and Lindsey Anderson and Will Anderson, both of Spring; future great grandson, Noah Carter; special brothers and sisters, Ernie and Janie Wasson of Herrick, IL, Wayne and Jeanette Wasson of Albuquerque, NM and Wanda and Ted Patton of Southern Pines, NC; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
