Charles Frank Lloyd, Jr., 88, of Baytown, Texas, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2019. Charles was born in Gonzales, Texas on March 24, 1930, the eldest child of the late Charles Frank Lloyd, Sr. and Anna Catherine (Sestak). At an early age, Charles went to work at the cotton mill in Gonzales to help support his parents and siblings. In 1950, he enlisted into the National Guard and in 1954, was inducted into the Army during the Korean War. He served until he was Honorably Discharged in 1959. Upon his discharge from the Army, he was awarded his GED from the Army and received his High School diploma from Gonzales High School. Charles made his career at GTE, having worked for that same company for over 30 years before his retirement. Although he began as a traveling linesman, it wasn’t long before Charles worked his way up into management. In 1956, he married the former Roberta West of Dalhart, Texas, with whom he raised six children. Charles was a devout Catholic and, together with his family, was a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Baytown, Texas. Of the many values he passed along to his children and grandchildren, the importance of his Catholic faith, his work ethic, his integrity, his love of family, and his passion for the outdoors are among the most prominent. Charles enjoyed working with his hands and could often be found wood working or welding in his shop at home. Of the many things he enjoyed in life, spending time with his children and seven grandchildren was what gave him his greater joy. Charles is survived by two sons, Robert Lloyd of Baytown, Texas and Dr. James (Lisa) Lloyd of Katy, Texas. He is also survived by his two daughters, Kimberly (Bill) Barnhill of Boiling Springs, South Carolina and Tammy (Tim) Bennett of Wexford, Pennsylvania. Charles was preceded in death by two sons, Charles David Lloyd and John Thomas Lloyd, both of Baytown, Texas. He is also survived by his two brothers, Jack Lloyd of Gonzales, Texas, and Jimmy (Barbara) Lloyd of Shiner, Texas and his five loving sisters, Laura Wilson of Gonzales, Texas, Catherine (Oscar) Boelter of Seguin, Texas, Mary Jane (David) Geaslin of Gonzales, Texas, Judy (Mack) Bell of Houston, Texas, and Connie (Sonny) Dolezal of Gonzales, Texas. Finally, he is survived by his grandchildren, William Barnhill, Christopher Barnhill, Brooke Barnhill, David Lloyd, Kaitlyn Bennett, Mark Lloyd, and James Michael Lloyd II. A visitation will be held at Earthman Funeral Home in Baytown, Texas on Thursday, March 7, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Rosary Service will be held in Charles’ honor at Earthman Funeral Home on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. A funeral will be held with a Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 10:30 a.m., followed by the burial ceremony at 3:00 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Gonzales, Texas.

Very sad to learn of Chilli's passing .,,, I worked with him at GTE from 1982 until his retirement ... Smart, hard working , courageous , do it right the first time were the hallmarks of his character !!!

He was most proud of his family and his Texas heritage ...

I wish everyone in our shared faith could have and enjoy a friend like Chilli ...

Peace of the Lord Be With You All,

Ron Knight
