Charles served in the Coast Guard and then began an early career in auto mechanics. He began working at Exxon Refinery in 1974 and retired in 1995. During his time there, he served on the Exxon Volunteer Fire Team (Team 12).
He and his wife, Doris, loved to travel. Upon retirement, they purchased an RV and enjoyed travelling across the country. Charles, better known as Paw Paw, especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and taking them on excursions in the RV. He loved hunting and fishing and especially catching Redfish in the Bay with friends and family.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, brother Thomas Wilburn Scarborough, and sister Elizabeth Harris. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Doris Lester Scarborough; brothers Terry Jack Scarborough and Tracy Scarborough; sons Charles Scarborough (Angie) of Lorena and Kenny Fulton of Baytown; daughters, Robyn Beaty (Charlie) of Seneca, MO, Michelle Price of Houston, Rainey Freeman (Joe) of Tyler, Kelly Salazar (Edward) of Rosebud; grandchildren Alex and Heidi Scarborough, Joshua and Jeremy Hamilton, Patrick Price, Reagan and Parker Freeman, Ryan Salazar, Tyler Salazar Taylor Salazar; 2 great granddaughters; 3 step grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren.
Pallbearers are: Jeremy Hamilton, Ryan Salazar, Patrick Price, Tyler Salazar, Alex Scarborough, and Parker Freeman.
Visitation will be held at 10 am on Monday, November 2 in the chapel of Earthman Baytown Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 11 am with graveside services immediately after.
