OBITUARY

Charles William Tarver

January 23, 1943October 30, 2019

Charles W. “Chuck” Tarver of Baytown Texas reunited with his beloved wife in heaven on October 30th 2019. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Chuck Tarver was born in Satsuma, Alabama on January 23rd 1943. He was 76 years old. Chuck joined the U. S. Marine Corps right out of high school in 1961. He served two tours in the Vietnam conflict where he received The Purple Heart. While stationed in Shreveport LA, he met and married his wife, Sue, in 1969. Over the next 20 years Chuck, Sue, and their 5 children were stationed in California, South Carolina, and Louisiana before his retirement in 1981. They made numerous life-long friends that became family. They moved to Texas in 1984 where he became a Harris County correctional officer and retired after 17 years of service. He and Sue spent many happy years in their retirement traveling and visiting with family and friends but their passion was playing the slots! Chuck was a tough Marine who loved his country but loved his family more. He was a quiet man, for the most part, but he always had an encouraging word of advice or a funny story to tell. There have been quite a few young men and women that admired him so much that they too, became Marines. He was an awesome husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, son, uncle, and friend. He will be greatly missed. Chuck was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Sue Tarver; parents, Norman and Louise Tarver; sister, Linda Louise Tarver; and grandson Dylan Gage Tarver. He is survived by his daughter Theresa Tarver (Ricky Stacy); grandchildren Rebecca Roper, Candi Roper, Tiffany Janice, and Crystal McClelland; daughter Stephanie Pearson, grandchildren Aaron Pearson, Jacob Pearson, and David Pearson; Son Charles Tarver Jr, grandchildren Megan Tarver, Courtney Tarver, Taylor Tarver, and Jordan Tarver; daughter Melodie Tarver Scott, grandchildren Leah Hare, Brittany Hare, and Adam Scott; son Daniel Tarver (Milissa), grandchildren Daniel Tarver Jr and Nicholas Tarver; as well as, 19 great grandchildren; His brothers Eugene Tarver (Theresa), Robert Tarver (Ellen), Frank Tarver (Margie), Joe Tarver (Diane), and George Tarver (Pat); sister, Patricia Morris (Joseph) and many nieces and nephews. Charles Tarver’s remains will be interred, along with Sue’s, at the Houston National Cemetery.

Sorry I dont have alot but I remember one that matters to me. My daddy took us down one summer to see them family and this time we went bowling it was the very first time I did it. It was so much fun everyone laughing and just being together. He will be missed and thought of always.

The world has lost a true American hero . Papa Chuck was so special to our family! The leader of a clan that welcomed our little family into theirs 30+ years ago in a way that embodied “ military camaraderie “. He and Mama Sue were surrogate parents and grandparents when the miles prevented ours from being present. We will never forget his quiet yet loving presence. His compassion and strength have left a legacy for us all to aspire to. Our prayers are with the family he left behind in this time of grief.

Mr Chuck will truly be missed. I was one of the many young men that loved and respected him. I was also one of many that followed his footsteps into the Marine Corps. He treated me like a son and I looked at him as a father. He always called me the dark sheep of the family but I always knew he loved me. He is in heaven now and back with momma Sue. They are both dancing with the angels. Semper Fi Marine!!!
