Chukwuyere Edward Uzoruo-Benedict, 71, of Baytown, Texas, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born in Nigeria, on September 1, 1954, to the late Edom Uzoruo-Benedict and Nnena Ozirigbo. On July 24, 2004, Chukwuyere married the love of his life, a young woman by the name of Petra Murray of Pembroke Tobago. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter.
Chukwuyere earned his Master of Education degree from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada. Following his graduation, he taught in the Caribbean and established a Continuing Education business. After relocating to Texas, he taught at Port Arthur Independent School District, specializing in special education and supporting students in developing essential life skills for future success. Subsequently, he became a licensed professional behavioral counselor and provided services to children and adolescents within the behavioral department at Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital.
Chukwuyere had diverse interests, including watching soccer and maintaining his yard. He was passionate about education and emphasized its importance to his children. As a dedicated businessman, he sought investment opportunities in real estate when conditions were favorable. Above all, he found great fulfillment in spending quality time with his family. A hardworking and dependable provider, Chukwuyere consistently ensured that his family’s needs were met.
Chukwuyere was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Petra Uzoruo; his children, Chukwuyere, Jr., and his wife Bonita, Chibueze and his wife Charlene, Chidi and his wife Evangeline, Chiyere Russell and her husband Dwayne, Chiemeka, and Chieme Uzoruo; his eight grandchildren; his siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held at Earthman Baytown Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Road, Baytown, TX 77521, on August 1, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A funeral will follow at Earthman Baytown Funeral Home, on August 1, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Graveside services will take place at Earthman Memory Gardens, 8624 Garth Road, Baytown, TX 77521, on August 1, 2026, from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm.
