Clarence Burt

He was born in Knox City, Texas in 1936 to Clarence Burt and Velma Strickland Burt and was the fifth of twelve children. He graduated from Knox City High School in 1954, where he was active on both the basketball and football teams. He was an avid boxer and a member of the championship team at the Abilene Regional Golden Gloves in 1954. Following graduation, he attended Texas Christian University, and married Lee Hazel. From that union, came Ronald Leonard, Michael Keith, and David Matthew. He married Cynthia Abshire in 1974, and moved to Beaumont in 1978, where daughter Claire Anne was born. They moved to Baytown, Texas in 1981 where he was employed as a machinist at Exxon until his retirement in 1999. In his free time, he enjoyed going to Lee High School football games with his friends Chuck Kent and Paul Reigleman, visiting his friends from the ExxonMobil Retiree Club, fishing, gardening, bird-watching, visiting the Baytown Nature Center, but most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Burt and Velma Strickland Burt, and four brothers, Gene, Keith, Kenneth and Jimmy, and brother in-law Maurice Abshire.

Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years Cynthia Abshire Burt, his sister Helen Parker of Austin, Texas, his brothers Paul Burt and wife Paula of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Daniel Burt and wife Paula of Burkburnett, Texas, Donnie Burt of Snyder, Texas, Charles Burt and wife Kathy of Ralls, Texas, Harvey Burt and wife Donna of Edgewood, Texas, and Gary Burt and wife Anita of Snyder, Texas. In addition to his wife and siblings, Leonard is survived by his sons Ronald and wife Vicki, Michael and wife Karen, David and wife Marcia, and their children Andrew, Mason, Evan, Aria, Miles and Amelia, and his daughter Claire Willis and husband Jonathan, and their children Kylie, Kobe and Jacey, his brothers in-law J.H. Abshire, Jr. and wife Yvonne, William Abshire, and sister in-law Rietha Valois and husband Roger, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
