Claude (Caddy) Allen Gunn

Heaven gained a new sweet soul. Claude (Caddy) Allen Gunn, age 83, of Mont Belvieu, Texas passed away from his earthly home on July 23, 2026. A true native of Mont Belvieu, he was born at home on January 2, 1943 to parents, Claude and Loris Williams Gunn and lived here his entire life.

Caddy attended Barbers Hill ISD, worked on local farms in his teens and later worked for Barbers Hill Well Service as a heavy equipment operator for several years. He retired in 2000 after working for 25 years for Brown & Root as a boilermaker at Chevron in Baytown.

Caddy and Gayle Spencer married in December, 1967. They were friends since childhood and from their first date, they both knew they were in love and wanted to spend their life together. On their next date, instead of giving her a bouquet of flowers, he presented her with a large camellia bush in full bloom! Six weeks later, they were married. Their daughter, Tasha, was born in 1977 and was a real daddy’s girl, loving the outdoors.

Some of the happiest times were when Caddy and Gayle built their home next door to his sister. His brother lived in the next house over, so it was a great family commune in Cherry Point, Mont Belvieu. All of our children were in and out of the three homes all the time and it was so much fun.

After retirement, Caddy enjoyed daily coffee meetings with his friends and his best friend, Ronnie Patterson; going fishing; gardening; and building utility trailers to sell. He always liked family vacations to the Hill Country and to Colorado. He had two workshops and his greatest joy was teaching crafts and auto repair skills to his grandsons, Trey and Blayne; and spending time with his step-grandsons, Trevor and Conner.

Caddy was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Loris Gunn; brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Janyce Gunn; brother, Joe Gunn; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Charles Mitchell; and daughter, Natasha (Tasha) Underwood.

He is survived by his wife, Gayle Spencer Gunn; grandsons, Trey Wiggins and Blayne Underwood; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Wathena Spencer; step-grandsons, Trevor and Conner Underwood; and all his precious nieces and nephews.

Our family is so blessed and grateful to family, friends and neighbors who have all been so supportive and loving throughout his lifetime and especially during his illness. He was a true gentleman, filled with love, kindness, honesty, and great stories of his adventures.

“You never lose that which you have loved. That love will live in you forever. You two were simply made for each other. Know that you will never be alone, that your generous love was an extension of God the Father and He will remain your strength and your peace.”
