

David was born on October 2, 1940 in Highlands, Texas to Theo and Ottis Doolittle. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and Lee College in Baytown. He then attended and graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor’s degree.
For the next 27 years, David taught 7th grade Life Science at Alice Johnson Junior High in Channelview, TX. After retiring in 1992, he substituted for the Channelview district for several years. Many of his former students have posted tributes, stating that he was a great teacher and a compassionate, caring, and funny man, who touched their lives profoundly.
David is predeceased by his parents, Theo A. and Ottis Sowell Doolittle, his sister, Sylvia Pauline Sherron, his brother, James “Jim” Doolittle, and his nephew, Stephen Sherron.
David is survived by his sons, Devon Jarred Doolittle of Highlands and Jeffery Lance Doolittle of Houston and his former spouse, Mahalah Hamner of Seabrook. He is survived by nephews, Thomas Sherron of Baytown, Timothy Sherron of Highlands, Brian and wife Lynette Doolittle of Dayton, and Scott and wife Nicole Doolittle of Cypress, and 4 great nieces and nephews, Justin, Jacob, Darren, and Mackenzie. He is also survived by special friends, Ray and Janine Armstrong and Carl and Vivian Sommers, as well as a host of extended family, former students and former co-workers.
David will be cremated. A memorial celebration of life will be held at 2pm on August 6, 2022 at Northside Baptist Church, 317 Barber’s Hill Road in Highlands, Texas.
