David Glen Hurr, Dr.

Dr. David Glen Hurr passed away on August 9, 2011 at the age of 69, surrounded by family. He was born in Baytown, Texas on December 18, 1941, to Glen Pierce Hurr and Nettie Beaugh Hurr. He grew up in Baytown and resided there until he moved to Liberty, Texas in 1972, where he resided until his death.

While growing up, David spent time working in the family grocery store, the Hurr's Food Market, and enjoyed shrimping, fishing, and water skiing on the bay and hunting at the original Hurr family homestead in Rock Island, Texas. He graduated magna cum laude from Robert E. Lee High School in 1960. He went on to attend Lee College, where he graduated as valedictorian in 1962. He then attended University of Texas School of Dentistry where he graduated in 1966, then pursued a specialty degree in orthodontics. David opened his orthodontics practice, in 1969, at the Hurr Dental Office at 7912 Bayway Drive in Baytown where he practiced for 42 years until his death. Dr. Dave prided himself in providing individualized and personal care.

David was an avid gun and bow enthusiast and outdoorsman and spent many happy hours bow hunting. He loved music, enjoyed dancing and reading, and was a skilled whistler. He was an active member of the Fountain of Faith Fellowship Church in Baytown. David (also known as ""Ga-Ga"" by his grandchildren) was an adoring and doting grandfather; his grandchildren gave him much comfort through his battle with cancer. He was an intelligent, vivacious man, with a larger than life personality.

David was preceded in death by his father and mother, Glen and Nettie Hurr. David is survived by his four daughters, Sarah Hurr, Dr. Heather Johnson, Dr. Jennifer Hogan and her husband Brandon Hogan, and Heidi Morgan and her husband Tim Morgan; three grandchildren, Claire Hogan, Ben Hogan, and Lyla Morgan; one brother, Dr. John Hurr and his wife Arleta; one sister, Nettie Ann Biondo and her husband Lee, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins, and other family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 12, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown. Funeral services will be on Saturday, August 13, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Wooster Baptist Church in Baytown. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at the Hurr Family Cemetery in Rock Island, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers will be Joey Biondo, Jason Biondo, Dave Barnhart, Anderson Lee, Danny Casey, R.D. Burnside, Steve Wagner and David Rabke. Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Hurr, James Fulton, Curtis Walton, Dr. Henry Dismuke, Robert Zavadil, R.L. Baker, Danny Lindsay, Warren David, and Charles Wagner.
