Derrick Edward Wade, 54, passed away on April 2, 2025, in Baytown, Texas. Born on June 23, 1970, in Orange, California, Derrick lived a life marked by deep faith, unwavering dedication to his family and country, and an infectious sense of humor that brought joy to all who knew him.
Derrick spent his formative years in Overton, Texas, where he attended school before pursuing higher education. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from Northwestern Theological Seminary, a reflection of his lifelong devotion to his faith. An ordained minister and youth minister, Derrick loved the Lord with all his heart and never missed an opportunity to share his great faith with others.
From 1988 to 1996, Derrick proudly served in the United States Army. He especially cherished his time as a gunner on a tank—a role he embraced with pride and enthusiasm. Following his military service, Derrick transitioned into civilian life as a facilities director for several medical facilities. His final professional role was at The Texas Medical Center in Houston, where he continued to demonstrate leadership and commitment.
Family was most important to Derrick. He met his wife of 33 years in 1989, and the two were married in August of 1991. They moved to the Baytown area in 2001 with their two sons and welcomed their daughter to the family in 2002. He loved attending every school performance or sporting event. He was involved in his children’s booster clubs and worked tirelessly to improve those organizations.
Derrick’s love for people was evident in every aspect of his life. He never met a stranger and had an uncanny ability to strike up conversations with anyone. Known for his unique sense of humor—often inventing playful pronunciations like “pick-a-nick” and “coopins”—he delighted in making others laugh. Whether coaching Little League or select baseball teams or simply chatting with neighbors while mowing his lawn (one of his favorite pastimes), Derrick brought warmth and laughter wherever he went.
A devoted husband and father, Derrick is lovingly remembered by his wife, Jennifer Wade; sons Joshua Wade (Erika) and Justin Wade (Julie); daughter Sydney Wade (TJ); and six cherished grandchildren: Brantley, Jameson, Casey, Allison, Archie, and Madison. He also leaves behind two brothers, David Wade (Peggy) and Doug Wade (Liz); one sister, Shannon Burchfield (Kenneth); ten nieces and nephews; six great-nieces and nephews; as well as many cousins and friends whose lives were touched by his kindness.
Derrick was preceded in death by his parents, David (Gene) and Elizabeth Wade.
An avid Houston Astros fan and passionate golfer, Derrick found joy in the simple pleasures of life—whether cheering on his team or tending to his lawn with pride. Above all else, he loved God and his family deeply. His generosity knew no bounds; he would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation.
Under the direction of Navarre Funeral Home, a graveside service honoring Derrick’s life will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Cedarcrest Cemetery located at 3010 Ferry Rd., Baytown, Texas 77520.
