Born in Pelly on July 28, 1925, he was one of five children born to Donald Henry and Cleo Rae Mathews. He attended Robert E. Lee High School and proudly served his nation in the United States Navy. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church and a avid reader of the Bible.
He was preceded in death by both his parents, sister Ruth Mathews, brothers, Gayle C Mathews, and Harold R Mathews, and step-son John E Strasser.
Donald is survived by his loving wife Naomi, of Baytown, step daughter Janet Young and husband Kurt Young of Waverly, Ohio, step-son Jeffery Strasser and wife Suzanne of Orlando, Florida, grandsons: Brian Zinck of Greenville, SC, Jason Zinck and wife Tia of Greenville, SC, foster son Roy White and wife Sandy of Shreveport, LA and their children, and brother Ralph Mathews of Cove, TX.
