Dorothy Pursley Allison, 95, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2015, surrounded by loved ones at her home in Baytown, Texas. She was born in New Waverly, Texas to Black and Hettie Pursley on July 8, 1919 and has been a Baytown resident for over 76 years.
Dorothy graduated in 1937 from Conroe High School and shortly after moved with her widowed mother to Baytown. In those early years she worked for Weingarten's Grocery, the local telephone company and at her sister-in-law's beauty shop in Old Baytown next to the old Scarborough's drug store. It was in that drug store she met Wayne Allison. Dorothy and Wayne were married in June of 1948. They made their home in Baytown, and together raised one son, Johnny Wayne Allison and one daughter, Hedy Allison Bingham.
Dorothy was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and aunt. Wayne and Dorothy dedicated their entire married life to lovingly care for their son Johnny Wayne who required 24-hour care. Their deep love and devotion to their son allowed Johnny Wayne to live 61+ years, surpassing his life expectancy, comfortably in his home until his death. Their remarkable, loving dedication to their son was a shining example of unselfishness and unconditional love.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, Oliver, Oscar, Vernon, David, E.A. ""Chili"" and Floyd Pursley; two sisters, Addie Mae Lusk and Ches Lee Hurt; her husband of 54 years, Wayne Allison, and her beloved son, Johnny Wayne Allison. Dorothy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Hedy and Emmett Bingham, grandson, Steven Bingham and a ""very special"" niece that was more like a sister, Maxine Fisher. Also surviving is a most-special family member, Santos Aguirre, who for the past 18 years has tenderly cared for, loved, laughed and cried with Dorothy. They had a very special bond of love and high regard for one another. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews that she loved and each one held a special place in her heart.
In addition to Santos, our family would like to thank the many kind and loving people who helped care for our mother over the years: Aleina Herman, our dedicated, compassion nurse for eight-plus years; Trishna Gurung, Hospice care; Brenda Aguirre; Selena Ortega; Denise Aguirre; Margarita Robles; the staff of A-Care Home Health, Dr. Federico Dancel and staff; Genus Patris Hospice Care and the MANY friends and family members who provided love and support throughout Dorothy's life.
Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Pursley, Robin Pursley, Joey Fisher, Kelly Allison, Steven Bingham and Emmett Bingham.
