Norene passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 22, 2012 surrounded by her family.
After attending Greenville high school where she played on the girls’ basketball team, she met the love of her life, Charlie Dobbs, while working at the Dairy Queen. They were married on December 9, 1956. They would start a family right away and by 1960 they would have three children, David, Cindy and Steve and a fourth child, Andy would be born in 1970.
Norene and Charlie moved around pursuing dreams and jobs but always finding a local church home and they would bring their children up in a God honoring Christ centered home.
In 1991 Norene and Charlie would move to the Houston area, specifically the Channelview area where they would quickly find a church home at Calvary Baptist Church. Norene would become a long time leader in AWANA and she would also become a Sunday school teacher to the young women of Calvary Baptist Church for many, many years.
Since all of their children were grown, or supposed to be, and their grandchildren were growing up, Norene and Charlie felt led to become foster parents. Nervous and apprehensive they pressed forward and started with three siblings, Robby, Lauren and Tyler Friddle. The Friddles were with Mom for so long that they are part of the family, and will be expected to continue to attend family functions and holidays going forward.
Mom stated that “I know that I know that I know” I am saved and that I am ready to go home and see Charlie” several times in the weeks preceding her death. Her example of her FAITH will be remembered by those who knew her.
If you were a family member you might have received a phone call that started “YOUR NAME (usually Steven) I want to talk to you, not as your Mother, but as one Christian to another”, then, she would show up at your front door, 10 pound KING JAMES VERSION bible in hand with little pieces of paper sticking out of the places she had marked to EXPLAIN what, and why you needed to change your ways. Yeah!!!
Mom truly loved her family, her four children and their spouses, all twelve of her grandchildren and their families, all 10 great grandchildren and had a special place in her heart for Robby, Lauren and Tyler.
Proverbs Ch. 31: …. “Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised” and it also states – “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies” Mom was a real gem, she was loved and she will be missed.
