Duane Harvey Lowe, 87, died May 29, 2026. Born October 12, 1938, in Wheeling, West Virginia, Duane later moved to Galveston, where he graduated from Ball High School in 1957. He went on to attend Texas Tech University, graduating in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and chemistry, and receiving a commission as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army. An Eagle Scout in his youth, Duane carried forward a steady spirit of service throughout his life, marked by a quiet kindness and an enduring habit of putting others first.
Duane began his professional career with Humble Oil Co. (now Exxonmobil) in Baytown before leaving to serve as an officer in the U.S. Army Infantry Division, stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington, for two years. After completing his military service, he returned to Humble Oil Co., where he built a 37 1/2 year career. In both uniform and civilian life, he was known for his dependable presence and considerate way—someone who did his work with care and carried responsibility with humility.
Duane married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn, and they shared 63 years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clair C and Mildred V. Lowe; his sister, Eileen; and his son, Kevin Duane. He is survived by his spouse, Carolyn; his son Kirk (and wife Traci) of Montgomery, Texas; his son Brent of the Woodlands, Texas; and his grandchildren Justin, Lauren, Travis, and Hailey—who were among his greatest joys.
A devoted member of St. Mark's Methodist Church of Baytown, Texas, Duane lived his faith through steady devotion and practical generosity. He also gave his time as a Boy Scout Leader, offering guidance with patience and a sincere desire to help young people grow. Outside of his commitments, he treasured time with his grandchildren, and found simple happiness in fishing and traveling.
