She was born on November 10, 1933 in the Houston Heights and would have celebrated her 83rd birthday soon. She was the daughter of Cleo and Melvin McCarty.
She graduated from Lee High School and attended Lee College while also working at Weingarten's grocery store. She soon married her true-love Bill Green in 1955. After working a short span at the Exxon Research and Development, Mrs. Green decided to stay home to be a full-time homemaker, wife, and mother. Meanwhile, her husband continued with his career in local grocery store management.
Throughout the years, she and her husband enjoyed traveling together to various scenic places in the United States and to several tropical beaches. They also shared an interest in gardening and creatively landscaping their yard; a hobby she continued herself for several years. Mrs. Green took great pride in living in their home for 60 years.
Additionally, she was a great cook: she loved to cook tasty recipes and bake delicious desserts. Furthermore, she had a desire to help others and generously supported numerous charities. While she was in better health, she devoted much time to assisting ailing family and friends with shopping, meals, doctor appointments, etc.
She was a long-time member of Missouri St. Church of Christ, as far back as the Virginia St. church days in her younger years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years; her parents; and brothers-in-law Ed Cathriner Jr. of Baytown and Doug Green of Tyler, nephew Chris Bittick of Waco, Texas, niece Celeste Bittick of Ryan, Oklahoma .
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Steve Gilbert of Mont Belvieu; sister, Melva Cathriner of Baytown; sister and brother-in-law, Charlene and Bruce Bittick of Ryan, Oklahoma; many cousins, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
