

Our beloved mother, grandma, ""Namaw"" and ""Gomaw,"" Elmira ""Myra"" Pauline Smith passed away on Monday, February 7, 2011 at the age of 87. She was born April 25, 1923 to Robert Edward Lee Smith and Amalia ""Emma"" Ulrich Smith in Cedar Bayou, TX. On her father's side, she is a direct descendant of Christian Smith, a pioneer of Cedar Bayou and one of Stephen F. Austin's ""Old Three Hundred."" Her maternal grandparents, Peter Celestine Ulrich and Josephine Rohla Ulrich emigrated from Prague, Czechoslovakia and settled in the community of Crosby. She was very proud of her heritage.
She graduated from Cedar Bayou High School in 1940, where she played drums for the drill team ""The Blue Battalion."" In May of 1940, she married her high school sweetheart, Bryant ""Tugboat"" Smith. Myra and Bryant lived in Bombay, India for several months on assignment with Exxon. She is a member of Old River Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star Cedar Bayou Chapter #11. She was a homemaker and a wonderful and giving mother to her children and grandchildren. A voracious reader, she instilled in all of us the love of reading. She worked in the Cedar Bayou Junior School cafeteria during the 1950's. She left a legacy of love and Christianity to all of her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Bryant Smith; sisters, Erma Ozbun and Nadine Hart; and daughter, Sandra Temple. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Robert Osgood, son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Debbie Smith, sister, Edwina Campbell, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Dimple Smith, all of Baytown; grandchildren, Steve and Judy Osgood, Mike and Deana Osgood, Patti and Kirk Calma, Paul and Penny Knight, Brett Smith, and Jeffrey and Aimee Smith; great grandchildren, Jacob, Sarah, Brad, and Blake Osgood, Samantha and Marisa Calma, Brian and A. J. Knight, Sandy Ray, Amanda Vasquez, Trevor Greene, and Lyla Smith; and special niece and her husband, Linda and Jack Parker of Amarillo.
Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Biddy officiating. A private burial will follow at Cedar Bayou Masonic Cemetery.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers and Gordon Smith will be an honorary pallbearer.
