

He was born on August 27, 1923 to Oliver & Maude McDaniel in Buckholts, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. On August 20, 1943, he married Ruth Dickerson. After 53 years of marriage Ruth passed away on February 26, 1996. He is survived by his children: Carolyn & husband Mike Ward, Brenda & husband Larry Vinson, Terry & wife Kay McDaniel, all of Baytown, Texas. Grandchildren are Alan & Jason Ward, Gary Vinson, Andrew McDaniel, Leanne Vinson Holm, Marcus & Michael McDaniel and five great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his wife, Betty and her children: Jenny & husband Charles Fall, Curtis & wife Gail Davis, Glenda & husband Fred Polnisch. Her grandchildren are Jeffrey & Stephen Fall, Jason Davis, Robert & Anna Crowe, Tiffany & Brittany Polnisch and seven great grandchildren.
He is survived by two brothers, Buddy & Pete McDaniel, both of Baytown. He is also survived by numerous nephews & nieces.
Elton moved to Baytown in 1937. He went to work in March, 1945, for Humble Oil & Refining Co. He worked in the Packing & Lube Blending Dept. until the last five years, when he went to the asphalt unit. Elton retired on September 30, 1982, after 37-1/2 years of service.
Elton was a long-time member of Central Baptist Church where he was a greeter & usher.
He enjoyed camping with family & friends. He was the kind of person who never met a stranger. Garner State Park was a favorite spot for many years. One time there were four generations of family at the park camping with their ‘Paw.’ He also went to Branson, Missouri more than 23 times. He loved going to the country & western shows there.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Earthman Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Rd., Baytown, Texas.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at 10:00 AM at Earthman Funeral Home, followed by burial at Cedar Crest Cemetery on Ferry Rd. in Baytown. His grandsons will be pallbearers.
