

Eola Oliver Cox, 100, of Baytown, Texas was born May 13, 1906 in Grapeland, Texas and passed away Thursday, January 11, 2007 in a local hospital after a short illness. She was a member of First Westminster Presbyterian Church throughout her life.
Eola was born at home on a farm to Emmie Ola Oliver and Marshall Monroe Oliver, the first of Emmie’s nine children. She attended Sam Houston Sate University where she received a Teaching Certificate and went on to teach elementary school for two years near the towns of Kennard and Ratcliff in Houston County.
On November 10, 1927, Eola married Eddie Cox at the Methodist Church in Baytown. Eddie and Eola ventured into many successful businesses together. The best known of these was the real estate business. Eddie and Eola were highly respected in the Baytown community, where they were best known for their integrity and honesty. Two of the most recognizable slogans in the area are still remembered today by old timers around town: “Be Nice To People” and “Done It Again!”
Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Friday, January 12, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 13, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Dr. Richard Kleiman officiating. Burial will follow at San Jacinto Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Skip Oliver, Spike Bleau, Matt Reed, Tim Oliver, Warren Davis, Olin Wallace, Charles Lively, and Terry Levesque. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Lynn Hodges, Marvin Currie, Thomas G. Vandivier, and Tino Nolasco.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Cox; brothers, Marcus Oliver, Marvin “Jack” Oliver, and Maurice “Sam” Oliver; and sisters, Lois Northrup, Marcia Ross, and Mada Lee “Red Top” De Laune and is survived by her sisters, Mrs. Dye “Pal” Hodges of Crockett and Mrs. Ray “Nona” Rushing of Baytown. She is also survived by a number of beloved nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Drs. Chris Hays and Fernando Sarti and the staff of San Jacinto Methodist Hospital. Heartfelt thanks are extended to her caregivers, Marlene Wilhoite, Shari Wilhoite, and Tracy Nolasco.
