Frances Freeland Helm

We are sad to announce the death of Frances Freeland Helm, 84, of Baytown Texas, who passed away Monday, January 1, 2024. She was born in Rosevine, Texas on October 28, 1939 to Homer and Christine Morris. She grew up in Devers, Texas but moved to Baytown and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. After graduating high school, Frances enrolled at Lee College and then Sam Houston State University. While at Lee College, she met her future husband.

In March of 1960, Frances married the love of her life, James Walter Helm. They spent 37 blissful years together until his passing in October 1997. Frances was an avid reader. She also loved doing puzzles and watching the Houston Astros and the Dallas Cowboys. But her favorite pastime was laughing and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Christine, her husband James, and her sister Barbara Nesslerode.

She is survived by her son, James Mark Helm and her daughter, Kimberly Smith and her husband Jeff. In addition to her children, she is survived by her grandchildren Michelle Webb and her husband Dave, Joshua Downs and his wife Emilie Downs, Holly Yarbrough and her husband Patrick, Heather Manning and her husband Scott, and Hannah Smith as well as her seven great-grandchildren Rose, Sarah, and Matthew Webb, James and Jacob Downs, Kaylee Yarbrough, and Ava Manning.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Cedar Bayou Masonic Cemetery, 2850 Ferry Rd, Baytown, Texas.
