Evelynn “Gail” Roberts Thomas was born May 7, 1942. She passed away in her sleep on January 18, 2022. She spent her early years in Horatio, Arkansas until moving to her hometown of Baytown, Texas as a child. Gail was brought up attending Saint John’s United Methodist Church in Baytown and her faith was central to her life. Upon graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in 1960, Gail got married and concentrated on being a homemaker, wife, and mother.
Her hobbies included traveling, reading, watching movies, and going to the beach. She always said that one of her biggest blessings was being able to live in Hawaii for close to seven years. She also enjoyed hosting get-togethers in her home and spending time with her family and many friends. In fact, Gail’s life was centered around family. Her greatest joy was being a Meme to not only her grandchildren – but to their friends as well. She relished supporting her granddaughters by faithfully attending their water polo and swim competitions throughout their school years. Nothing made her happier than when her granddaughters had children of their own and she could be a part of their lives as well.
During the last few years of her life, Gail lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Beaumont, Texas. However, she always continued to maintain regular contact with those she loved – family and friends – via the phone and FaceTime.
She is preceded in death by her grandmother and grandfather, Lura and Bennie Roberts; her mother and stepfather, Georgia and Charlie Slagle; her sister Maria Rose (Penny) Slagle; her sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Dallas Spurlock; and her aunt and uncle, Johnnie and Cleo Gresham.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Bob Baulch; her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Marcie Fenton; her daughter Misty McMullen and Darrell Skillern; her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Sarah McMullen and Cody Ancelet; her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Hannah McMullen and Bryan Wolfe; her great-grandchildren Cara & Carter Ancelet and Wyatt & Camilla Wolfe; her sister and brother-in-law, Angie and Hugh “Junior” Sigers; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and close family friends; and her little companion, Lily.
Gail will be missed by all who knew her. From her sharp wit to her finely honed skills as a storyteller, she made an impact on everyone she met.
A visitation for Gail will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at First Church Baytown, 3105 Rollingbrook Dr., Baytown, TX 77521, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM.
All flowers may be sent to Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook Dr., Baytown, TX 77521.
