

He was preceded in death by grandparents Leonard and Myrtle Dugat, and Joe and Jody Huddleston.
He is survived by his parents Mickey and Susan Bertrand; sister, Brandi and husband Nathan Conrad; and nephew Hudson Conrad.
Gary was an avid learner. He received a double major in Biology and Chemistry from Houston Baptist. He worked as a chemist for several years before being accepted to law school. Then he received his law degree from Southwest Texas of Law. Gary worked for several big law firms before going into business for himself. He was offered an opportunity from Teach America to obtain his masters in teaching, while teaching in an inner-city New York high school. He loved working with kids and said he found his new profession. However, after a couple years, he returned home to help tend to his grandma and grandpa. He spent several years working as a teacher and attorney near his hometown, while still returning to college to learn new trades that interested him. Then he was offered an opportunity of a lifetime as an executive and teacher of a Vietnam school. He accepted and was having the time of his life and planned to travel the world teaching in other countries. At his passing, he was in the process of obtaining an international teaching degree from Auburn University.
A memorial service will be held in the Mausoleum at Earthman Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8624 Garth Road, Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011 at 2 p.m.
