I was looking online and saw that one of my most favorite teachers in Jr. High had passed. Seeing her picture made me smile and remember what a wonderful teacher she really was. I don't think I ever saw her in a bad mood. She was always so up beat and seemed to really love teaching. I wished all my teachers were like her.

Carolyn, your mother was a rare jewel.  I have enjoyed the world that she opened to me.  She knew how to reach each child and challenge them to be their creative best.  She and my father (Luther aka/Scooter & Moon) went to school together and I loved the stories that she shared about him/them.  She gave me ammunition and insight.  I was also best friends with David through the Horace Mann years.  

Celebrate in the knowledge that Mrs. Donnelly was an inspiration to many.  She gave us a gift that will never stop giving.  She taught us to learn, to love life, and to appreciate.  She will live forever in our hearts.

Dear Ms. Carolyn,

Please allow me to extend my sincere condolences regarding the loss of your mother. I lost my beloved father January 2000; he lost his battle to cancer. Although it has been ten years, it seems as though it happened yesterday and no matter what the age or situation; the pain, sadness and heartache remain the same. 

Even though the pain, sadness, and heartache still exists I have drawn comfort from the resurrection (meaning a re standing to life) hope that is promised at Acts 17:31 where God furnishes a guarantee to all men that he resurrected his Son from the dead.

I know the days ahead without your loved one will at times seem very difficult but God’s  word, the Bible can help us cope with losing a loved one. Although I don’t know you personally, it has been a pleasure sharing some words of comfort with you.

It has been many decades since we met. You were one of the most caring and nurturing teachers that I ever had the honor of being taught by. Through all my years at Horace Mann (The Original Campus)You gently pushed all of us to be better people and the only ones that ever failed, it was of thier own free will, because you always had that extra time for any and all that asked. You will be greatly missed by all of the many lives you so gently touched. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and we can all find peace in the knowledge that we will all be reunited some day. May God's grace and mercy be with the family with the knowledge that when we cross Jordan your angelic smile and and open arms will be there to greet us all. Carolyn, I was so sorry to hear of your mother's passing.  [I doubt if you'll remember me, my mother was our Girl Scout Leader (Lamar, 1959)].  Thinking of you at this difficult time.

Mrs. Donnelly was one of my favorite teachers at Horace Mann in the mid 1970s.  I think of her often.  She was a beautiful person on the inside and out.  She was a true lady with elegance and charm.  She was a kind and gentle person whose love for God shined in her everyday life.  I have fond memories of her while at Horace Mann.  I know you will miss her, but also know she is dancing with Jesus and watching over you.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I am so sorry of the passing of your mother. I too am an Alumni of Horace Mann Jr. and remember the teachings of your mom so well. My mother, Ruth Lee told me once that she knew your mom from way back and that they had been dear friends way before I attended Horace Mann. I remember your parents coming into our family restaurant, The Brisket Barbeque and me being so nervous waiting on them. I figured if I spilled something on either, it would hurt my grade in school. Anyway, my thoughts and prayers go out to you. Ms. Donnelly was truly an inspiration to all the students that were lucky to have her as their teacher.

Carolyn, I'm probably not alone when I say that your mother was the most influential teacher in my life.  I haven't seen her in years, so the Gloria I remember is from Horace Mann in 1961.  She was gorgeous.  I remember that she read William Faulkner's Nobel acceptance to us and that on another day she stopped the planned lesson to talk about Ernest Hemingway's work when he died.  We listened to John Glenn's flight over the PA in her room.  I mark the time that I came to love reading from the day I walked into Gloria's class.  And I can still diagram a sentence, too!  She transformed lives as she taught, and every one of her students was blessed to be in her class.

Carolyn, I just read the Baytown Sun and saw the article about your mother. I am so sorry that I missed visiting with you last night...you are a special person, as was your mother. I have many wonderful memories of our fun times together. May God bless you and help you through this rough time. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Mrs.Donnelly touched the lives of many children. She genuinely cared about her students and guided them with love and determination. She was my teacher and she will always hold a special place in my heart.

Carolyn, I am so sorry to hear that you lost your mother. I lost my mom in October.  Gloria was such a big part of Horace Mann and a very good friend to my mom. English was my favorite subject and she was my favorite teacher. This is not an easy journey. I will keep you my prayers.

I was just talking about Mrs. Donnelly last week to some friends as we were strolling down memory lane.  Mrs. Donnelly was an awesome teacher and she truly touched my heart and my life forever.  I have never forgotten her kindness as well her her BIG heart. There just aren't many other teachers like her anymore.  Thank you Mrs. Donnelly for planting your little tidbits of wisdom into my heart, and for sowing your seed into my life.

I know this is a difficult time for your family.  I have many fond memories visiting with Mrs. Donnelly.  I pray that God would ease your pain.
