Gregorio (Greg) Abelardo Villarreal, age 42, of Baytown, Texas passed away on October 16, 2020. He was born in Baytown on November 2, 1977 to Gustavo Villarreal Sr. and Loida Thurmond. He found his true love in Courtney Michelle French, and they were married on May 28, 2011. His love of God and belief in Jesus Christ was present in everything he did. He was a loving husband and devoted father. He chose a career in healthcare because he loved helping others.
Gregorio obtained his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Texas Medical Branch. He then went on to get his graduate degree from UTMB and became a Family Nurse Practitioner. He always strove for excellence in education. He was in his third semester at UTMB where he was working towards his doctor of nursing practice degree when he became ill.
Gregorio started his career in healthcare as a Registered Nurse at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital. He worked in the medical-surgical and rehabilitation units and in hospice care before discovering his passion in the cardiac cath lab. He decided to broaden his experience in the field he loved and went to St. Luke’s Hospital where he worked until receiving his FNP degree. He began his career as a Family Nurse Practitioner at MD Anderson. He loved being a nurse practitioner; practicing at CVS and Houston Methodist Baytown before joining the Health Primary and Specialty Care Clinic of UTMB in Texas City where he felt truly at home and blessed.
Gregorio loved sports from a very young age, and excelled in soccer, basketball, football, and his passion, baseball. He never missed a Houston Texans game and loved the Astros. He shared this passion with friends and family, especially his brother, Gustavo.
He is survived by his loving wife, Courtney; his daughter Lilian and son Lucas; his mother Loida Thurmond and stepfather Michael Thurmond; father Gustavo Villarreal Sr.; brother Gustavo Villarreal Jr.; sister Jessa Guillen; stepsisters Sarah and Rebecca Thurmond; numerous in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him dearly.
The family would like to extend our thanks to the MD Anderson medical team and staff that supported us on this journey.
