Helen Jean Morgan, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away to be with our Lord May 14, 2007. She always put God first in her life; however, family ran a close second. Those who knew her loved her and knew her love for them was unconditional.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 16th from 5-8 pm at North Main Baptist Church in Liberty. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 17th at 11:00 am at the North Main Baptist Church under the direction of Navarre Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Baytown.
She was born in Eastland, Texas, March 14, 1929, the first of six children of L.V. and Helen Simmonds. She attended many schools as her dad was a chaplain in the U.S. Army. She graduated from Calvert High where she met and married Bob Morgan three days after they graduated. They have been happily married for sixty-one years this month. Raising their four sons and lovely daughter was a full time job as their ages spanned 18 years from the oldest to youngest. In her “spare” time, she proudly earned her Registered Nursing Degree with the very first class of RNs to graduate from Lamar University. Her career included nursing in a doctor’s office in Beaumont to Nurse Administrator at a Nursing Home in Dayton, to her favorite assignment, surgery.
She loved the outdoors. Camping, fishing, and traveling were among her favorite activities. She could swap fishing stories with the best of them. All the children have fond memories of camping at Huntsville State Park as youngsters. She was always happiest when traveling in a motor home either with family or going to visit family. She steadfastly supported her husband as his ministry called him to serve many churches in the southeast Texas area.
She was preceded in passing by her parents L.V. and Helen Simmonds and her baby brother Bobby Don.
She is survived by her loving husband Bob Morgan; sons Mike and wife Jan, David and wife Shelley, Brian and wife Anna, Joe and wife Sandra, and daughter Kathy; grandchildren: Michael and wife Jenni Morgan; Jennifer Zett; Lisa and husband Jonathan Miller; Wes Morgan; John Morgan; Jeremy and Sarah Morgan; great-grandchildren: Halie West, Anthony Morgan, Jace Zett, Jordyn Morgan, McKenna Zett and Austin Morgan; sisters: Joyce Ann Simons, Sue Beth and husband Gerald Bendele; sister-in-law Dorothy Smith; brothers: Lew Simmonds and wife Pat; Jimmy Simmonds and wife Phyllis; brother-in-law Ray and wife Willie Mae Morgan as well as a host of nieces and nephews and many friends and loved ones.
