Hilda Ruth McGinnis, 81, of Baytown was a wonderful daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She spent her life giving to her family and was a source of spiritual strength. Her strong faith led her through many trials in her life and served as an example to those who knew and loved her. Even in death, her prayers were answered, as she slipped quietly from this world to her heavenly home on November 6, 2006.
She was born to Grace and Sydney Brown on April 3, 1925 in Springfield, Louisiana. She moved to Baytown as a young child where she attended school. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1943 where she was a member of the Robert E. Lee Brigadiers. She attended Lee College to acquire the necessary skills she needed for her long career as a financial secretary. Her career led her to Harris County Federal Savings and Loans Association. She was Secretary to the President, Jack Strickler, for most of her 28 years there.
She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church for over 60 years. The family is grateful to the ladies in Adult 8 Ladies Class for continuing their love and visitation with her during her last years.
She was an avid gardener and cook. She will be greatly missed for her beautiful yards and many fattening desserts.
She is preceded to Heaven by her daughter, Cheryl Jean McGinnis; mother and stepfather, Grace and Bill Wehring, and her father, Sydney Brown.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Ricky Clem of Baytown, and Leigh Ann and Paul Wier of Baytown. She has three grandchildren, Christopher Melder, John Lee Kirkland, and Tara Anne Kirkland; and two great-grandchildren, Christopher Lee Melder and Brandon Kirkland. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Higman, and niece, Lynn Smith. She will be missed most by her faithful companion, Peggy Sue.
Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 7, 2006 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Cedarcrest Cemetery.
In remembrance of our mother and grandmother, those who wish may make contributions to Memorial Baptist Church or a shelter for homeless animals.
