Hobart W. Enoch, 88, of Walnut Creek, CA, formerly Baytown was born June 10, 1922 in Parkersburg, WV and passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011 in Walnut Creek, CA. He was a U. S. Army WWII veteran who considered himself ""one of the lucky ones"" after being shot in the head by a German sniper during the Battle of the Bulge. He spent seven months in hospitals across Europe and underwent three brain surgeries, which left him partially paralyzed. All the while, he endured intensive physical therapy to regain the use of his legs. After his discharge from the Army, he became the Goose Creek school district tax assessor-collector, where he retired in 1972. He was a member of the Baytown Optimist Club, Texas Poetry Society, 102nd Infantry Division Association, and Grace United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher. He was also a life member of both the Disabled American Veterans and V. F. W. Post #912.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Nettie Enoch and grandson, Matthew Nolen. He is survived by his wife, Jimmye Enoch of Walnut Creek, CA, formerly Baytown; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Susan Enoch of Mont Belvieu; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Dennis Nolen of Clayton, CA; sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Seaborn Cravey of Anderson, MO; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Glenworth Enoch of Houston; grandchildren and their spouses, Kevin and Tracy Enoch, Seth Enoch, Lauren Enoch, and Shelly and Brandon Cargo; and great grandchildren, Avery and Natalie Enoch and Hailey and Allison Cargo.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Graveside services with military honors will be Monday, May 16, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Ken Goodell officiating.
